Sojourner {noun} /ˈsoʊdʒɝnɝ/
A person who resides temporarily in a place; one who is alien to the people of a land but resides with them.A sojourner long before I knew the meaning of the word. Born in England, then raised in Singapore, before sojourns in UK, various places in North America, and finally Europe before a return to Singapore. But France and Italy have left an indelible mark on my life - an appreciation of the love that goes into the making of wine, the proud heritage of family winegrowers and their generosity and warmth in their guiding and sharing with me.

The Who, What and Why

Maybe I was an alien to most of the people of the land whilst residing with them, but I was also in a privileged position that could offer so much more to independent and heritage family winegrowers I had come to know in France and Italy. A seed had been planted.The wheels of fate and karma began turning faster; admittance into the centuries-old wine guild Confrérie Saint Etienne d’Alsace in May 2024; the meeting with an old friend wise in the worlds of AI and social media in June, culminated in A Ta Sante sponsoring some wine for an event titled “Solivagant” on the 7th of September, 2024 at Artitude Galleria. Organised to celebrate and promote a mendicant’s sojourn captured by his photography, it was where I met the Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi Rinpoche.His sharing “of his sense of discovery and embracing the world as is - the joy of seeing extraordinary in the ordinary.”, evoked a rare pause and moment of deep reflection on my part. It became a turning point for me.With DQuietAsian, a new journey has begun. To be a simple threshold for others to use to cross over from seeing just the mundane to discovering the joy of seeing extraordinary in the ordinary. I invite you to share this journey with me.
